Flo Spyrow
With over 30 years of experience in healthcare leadership, Flo brings perspectives as a nurse, CEO and legal counsel. However the most impactful experience of her career was walking a nearly four year journey with her son, Andrew, while simultaneously leading Northern Arizona Healthcare through the pandemic, as he valiantly fought a very aggressive form of Glioblastoma. Andrew was treated at some of the most renowned healthcare systems in the world: Mayo Clinic, Barrow Neurological Institute, MDAnderson and Miami Cancer Institute - Baptist Health. In all of these experiences, the care Andrew received fell short of the expectations that she would have for any patient treated in a facility that she led. Lack of compassion, poor communication, total disregard for the individual patient needs and lack of integration between providers, specifically western and eastern medicine, were a constant occurrence. In particular, nutritional needs for Andrew’s prescribed keto diet were fragmented, superficial and sometimes non-existent.
At these renowned healthcare institutions nutrition was consistently overlooked, even though it was critical to improving both Andrew’s quality of life and his ability to fight his aggressive cancer. Her goal now is to honor Andrew’s legacy in helping others to have a better experience in heath care, specifically by creating a truly holistic, integrative and multifaceted nourishment program for individuals and families navigating serious illness.
